Probably the best advice I can give you about the snorkel gear is that it is really nice to travel with your own gear. Make sure that your fins are not short. Short fins are great for body surfing or boogie boarding, but for snorkeling you really do want them longer and adjustable around the ankle. Ocean snorkeling involves a high concentration of salt on your equipment, so avoidance of zippers on your snorkel gear bag is ideal unless you are meticulous on rinsing your gear bag after each use. I prefer a mesh drawstring bag to avoid zipper failure, but most inexpensive sets come with a zippered bag. Mesh bags come along later when you get a fancy full face snorkel mask, etc.
