“There’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away.”
~Sarah Kay
Welcome to Stingray City Cayman Islands! The warm fragrant ocean island air calls your name to welcome you! Slow your life down long enough to give this island paradise some of your time. EXPLORE!
Dive into the ocean to explore these wonders! Stingray City is among the Cayman Islands’ most popular attractions. Aquatic lovers mingle with marine life by wading among friendly stingrays that congregate near the sandy shore. This once-in-a-lifetime experience lets you get up close to these magnificent animals. Experience the majestic southern Atlantic stingrays in only three feet of water as you brush up against these creatures. Stingray City is a group of sandbars located 25 miles off the shore of Grand Cayman. This adventure is suitable for all ages!
It may be that stingrays began gathering in the area decades ago when fisherman returning from an excursion, navigated behind a reef into the sound, and cleaned their fish in the calm water of the shallows and sandbar area. The fish guts and squid were thrown overboard and the stingrays eventually congregated to feast there. Soon the stingrays associated the sound of a boat engine with food. As this practice turned into a tradition, divers realized that the stingrays could be fed by hand.

LEARN!
“The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach.”
~Henry Beston
Learn about the habitat of the stingray. Why they congregate here. How to move along the ocean floor doing the “barefoot shuffle” to avoid stepping down on a stingray. Learn how they are harmful to you. Learn how to avoid being harmed by them. They are fascinating creatures!
Temperatures in the Cayman Islands are most always pleasant. These Caribbean islands experience fairly even temperatures throughout the year. In January, temperatures range from 73 to 81; in July, norms range from 80 to 88 (all in degrees Fahrenheit). The Cayman Islands’ rainy season runs from May to November, and annual rainfall is about 46 inches.

SAFETY!
“The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace.”
~Kate Chopin
Stay Calm. Stingray are very perceptive to human emotions. If you’re calm in the water, the Sting Ray will be calm around you. Look where you step. Before you enter the water be sure to make sure there are no Stingray. Stingray like to burrow in the sand to find shelter and to sleep so be vigilant with where you put your feet and don’t step on them. Don’t jump in to the water. Enter the water calmly, carefully looking to avoid startling the Stingray. Feed the Stingray carefully. Stingray mouths have ‘plates’ of teeth which they use to grind their food. They also use a sucking motion to channel food in to their mouths. If you feed the Stingray (use squid or ballyhoo) hold the food and make a tight fist tucking your thumb behind your fingers. Hold the food out to the stingray and let them take it carefully avoiding your fingers and thumbs. Proper observation of these simple rules ensures a safe experience.

SNORKEL CORAL GARDENS
“Ocean: A body of water occupying two-thirds of a world made for man – who has no gills.”
~Ambrose Bierce
DIVE FOR CONCH! Make a ceviche!
The snorkeling waters of the Grand Cayman are exquisite especially at Coral Gardens. This is a must see for avid snorkelers when visiting Grand Cayman. Proper safety precautions should always be observed.
There is a very high density of coral heads, meaning that you can see lots of fish. Sometimes you can also see wild turtles and lobsters. Calm, floating, relaxing in the water to float and just take in your environment as the sun soaks into your body from above. It is an experience like no other to enjoy!
Coral Gardens is a popular snorkel spot located in North Sound in Grand Cayman. The water is about 15 feet deep at Coral Gardens. It is too deep to stand here, some use a life jacket to float and observe below. It is a wonderful place for beginners to learn the snorkel equipment and float! You don’t need to use a life jacket, but if you aren’t an experienced snorkeler, then it is recommended that you use a life jacket.
Grand Cayman is the main island in the Cayman Islands. North Sound is a small area of sea that is protected by a barrier reef in Grand Cayman. North Sound is only about 5 miles in diameter.
FUN FACT: Grand Caymans is a popular destination for scuba divers and boasts 365 dive sites around the island. Grand Cayman is bordered by a deep trench which results in shallow coral reefs leading to deep walls down to the abyss. All conveniently located a quick 5-15 minutes boat ride from shore.

BEACHES!
“A beach is not only a sweep of sand but shells of sea creatures, the sea glass, the seaweed, the incongruous objects washed up by the ocean.”
~Henry Grunwald
The most famous Grand Cayman Beach is 7 Mile Beach. Seven Mile Beach, actually five miles long, is one of the most popular destinations for water sports and activities in the world. This stunning stretch of sand is known for its warm, turquoise waters and gentle waves. So, whether you’re looking to swim, surf, jet ski, or snorkel, there’s plenty to keep you entertained in Seven Mile Beach.

DO IT!
“So that the monotonous fall of the waves on the beach, which for the most part beat a measured and soothing tattoo to her thoughts, seemed consolingly to repeat over and over again.”
~Virginia Woolf
Because the Cayman Islands are flat coral islands without rivers, there is very little natural runoff to silt the water, unlike the mountainous volcanic islands in other parts of the Caribbean. Visibility in Cayman’s clear water can range from 60 -100 feet and year-round temperature averages 73 – 85 degrees
This harbor is vast and beautiful! Stingray City Cayman Island remains a favorite of ours to visit! Family snorkeling excursions are a great joy! Our children have grown up enjoying these adventures.

RELAXATION & ENJOYMENT!
“How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean.”
~Arthur C. Clarke
The moment you step on that soft sand, breathe that salt air and feel the offshore breeze, you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated. It is a great place to gather for celebrations and bonding time with pals!
FUN FACT: The western coast of Grand Cayman is home to one of the top white sand beaches in the Caribbean. This expansive stretch of white coral sand is a popular destination for beach-goers and offers a little something for every type of interest.
